Learning Objectives

Build balance, coordination, and teamwork through a fun, fast-paced dice challenge using Balance It cards.

Materials Needed

Balance It cards or access to the Balance It app Number dice (2x 10-sided dice or 3x 6-sided dice depending on range needed) Score sheets and pens Music (optional)

Instructions

Begin with a warm-up activity to prepare students for movement. Divide students into pairs or small groups. Distribute Balance Dice, score sheets, and writing utensils. Explain the rules: Students will roll the dice to generate a number (e.g., a two-dice roll of 1 and 8 = Balance #18). The group then locates Balance #18 in the Balance It task card deck or app, and attempts to perform it. If completed successfully, the group earns a point. If not, no points are awarded. Students continue rolling and completing balances, working cooperatively to improve technique and scores. Encourage students to help each other and discuss strategies for difficult poses. Continue gameplay for 30 minutes, monitoring and encouraging progress. Conclude with a cool-down and reflection (5 minutes). Each group tallies their final score and shares highlights of their game experience.

Assessment

Teachers can assess students by observing their ability to perform balances with control, collaborate effectively in their group, and reflect on their performance, with each group’s score providing a clear indicator of successful balance execution.

Extension Activities

Observe students’ participation during the Balance It Dice Game. Assess their ability to locate and correctly interpret the balance number rolled. Evaluate execution of each pose with attention to technique, control, and teamwork. Monitor how students support and encourage each other during gameplay. Provide real-time feedback on posture, transitions, and safety. During the reflection phase, assess students’ ability to articulate their experiences, challenges, and strategies. Record observational notes or use a quick rating checklist if desired.
