Materials Needed
Balance It app (with built-in Routine Maker) or printed cards
Routine Planner PDF (for offline use)
Space for group movement
Optional: Music for creative engagement
Instructions
Begin with a warm-up to prepare students for movement.
Divide students into small groups.
Have each group use the Balance It app’s Routine Maker or the Routine Planner PDF to select and organize a sequence of balances for their group routine.
Groups practice and refine their routines, focusing on smooth transitions, proper technique, and full participation from all group members.
Optional: Play music during this process to encourage creativity and engagement.
Each group presents their routine to the class.
After each presentation, invite classmates to give positive feedback and ask questions about the routine’s difficulty, inspiration, or technique.
Conclude with a cool-down session including forward bends, quad stretches, and shoulder stretches to relax muscles used during the activity.
Assessment
Observe students as they create and perform their routines, noting their ability to collaborate, apply balance techniques, and communicate effectively. Use both practice and presentation phases for formative assessment using the teacher assessment sheet.
Extension Activities
Challenge students to create original balances, modify poses (e.g., eyes closed, longer holds), or incorporate music, storytelling, or fitness themes into their routines.
