Learning Objectives
Students will develop balance, coordination, agility, and teamwork by navigating an exciting obstacle course that integrates movement challenges with Balance It balance stations.
Materials Needed
Balance It app or printed balance cards
Gym mats
Cones or agility markers
Balance beams or low benches
Hula hoops
Jump ropes
Stepping stones or agility dots
Timer or stopwatch
Optional: Upbeat background music for energy
Instructions
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Prepare students with dynamic movements:
Jumping jacks
High knees
Arm circles
Lunges with a twist
Obstacle Course Setup
Students will navigate a course that alternates between agility/fitness obstacles and balance challenges.
Example Course Layout:
Agility Challenge – Ladder drill, cones, or stepping stones
Balance Station 1
Fitness Challenge – Jump rope, box jumps, or crawling tunnels
Balance Station 2
Agility Challenge
Balance Station 3
Fitness Challenge
Balance Station 4
Agility Challenge
Final Balance Station 5 followed by a sprint to the finish
Course Rules
Divide students into small teams or pairs.
Set a timer and have students rotate through the stations.
Groups must complete both agility/fitness challenges and balance tasks before moving to the next station.
After completing the course, students can retry sections to improve technique or speed.
Repeat the course for two to three rounds to increase difficulty and skill development.
Assessment
Observe students as they navigate obstacles and balance stations, looking for:✅ Balance control and stability✅ Smooth transitions between poses✅ Teamwork and encouragement
Extension Activities
Let students design their own obstacle course with new balance challenges.
Introduce relay races incorporating balance tasks at each checkpoint.
